What is diabetes?
‘Diabetes’ is a metabolic disorder. A quite serious complex condition which can affect the entire body. This in itself is a chronic form of a disease that occurs when the pancreas is no longer able to make insulin, or when the body cannot make good use of the insulin. In the year 2013, it was estimated that over 382 million people throughout the world had diabetes (Williams textbook of endocrinology).
Diabetes is a disease (a long-term condition) that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar spikes higher than usual. ‘Blood glucose‘ is your main source of energy and comes from the food you eat. Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas. It helps glucose from the food to get into your cells to be used for energy. Sometimes our bodies do not make enough of insulin or don’t use insulin well. ‘Glucose‘ then stays in our blood and doesn’t reach our cells.
Excess of glucose in the blood can cause health issues.
There are few types of chronic diabetic conditions:
Type 1 diabetes – Type 1 diabetes is a disease in which the body does not make insulin. Type 1 diabetes accounts for five to ten percent of all cases of diabetes. It is usually diagnosed in young children and young adults and generally lasts throughout a person ’s life. People with Type 1 diabetes need to take insulin daily. They should also aim at keeping their blood sugar in a target range by balancing insulin with a proper diet plan and should exercise regularly.
Type 2 diabetes – Type 2 diabetes accounts for 90 percent of all cases of diabetes and most often hits the middle-aged individuals or older adults. People with Type 2 diabetes need to manage their diabetes by charting out a proper meal plan, being active overall and taking medicines, if needed. Speak to your doctor, you can certainly develop a treatment plan that works for you.
Gestational diabetes – Pregnant women may acquire a transient form of the disease called gestational diabetes which usually resolves after the birth of a baby.
Prediabetes – Prediabetes is when the blood sugar level is at the borderline: higher than normal, but lower than in diabetics. Prediabetes may or may not progress to diabetes.

They are responsible for everything you feel from warmth and cold to pain. They also play a vital role in controlling your heart rate, digestive system, bladder control and sexual function. Small blood vessels provide nerves with nutrients and oxygen required to survive and function. Your nerves are extremely sensitive to any change in their oxygen and nutrients supply damage to these small blood vessels occurs containing high levels of glucose travels through them on its way to feed your nerves. When a small blood vessel is damaged sufficient supplies of nutrients and oxygen no longer reaches the nerves causing the nerve to become damaged or eventually die.
What causes this diabetes?
If we know the causes then we will easily cure before it getting worst and take care of yourself to prevent from diabetics. That is not an easy question to answer. But many scientists think genetic susceptibility and environmental factors are most likely triggers of type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is very common these days. Having certain genes or combinations of genes may increase or decrease a person’s risk of developing the disease. The role of genes is suggested by the high rate of type 2 diabetes in families and identical twins and wide variations in diabetes prevalence by ethnicity. The known genes appear to affect insulin production rather than insulin resistance. Researchers are constantly looking at other ways genes can interact with one another and with environmental factors to cause diabetes.
Physical inactivity and obesity are strongly associated with the development of type 2 diabetes. People who are genetically susceptible to type2 diabetes are more vulnerable when these risk factors are present. An imbalance between caloric intake and physical activity can lead to obesity, which causes insulin resistance. Central obesity, in which a person has excess abdominal fat, is a major risk factor not only for insulin resistance and type2 diabetes but also for heart and blood vessel disease, also called cardiovascular disease. The American Diabetes Association says that people who develop type 2 diabetes are more likely to have the following characteristics:
- Age 45 or older.
- Overweight or obese.
- Physically inactive.
- Parent or sibling with diabetes.
- More than 9 pounds history of gestational diabetes.
- High blood pressure – 140/90 or above – or being treated for high blood pressure.
There literally are thousands of studies with hundreds of factors that cause diabetes.
Please check your sugar levels if you have these diabetes symptoms:
Tiredness – You always get tired. Two common reasons for tiredness or lethargy are having too high or too low blood sugar levels. In both cases, the tiredness is the result of having an imbalance between one’s level of blood glucose and the amount or effectiveness of circulating insulin. If you feel tired during the day despite having slept well, it could be a result of either high or low sugar levels. It is best to test your blood glucose levels to see whether the tiredness is indeed a result of having high or low sugar levels.
Increased thirst and urination – These are the most common symptoms of diabetes. When you have this disease, your kidneys can’t absorb all the excess sugar in your body. So it instead ends up in your urine taking along with it fluids from other tissues. This makes you pee more and leaves you feeling dehydrated to quench the thirst, you drink more which leads to even more frequent urination and it’s just a vicious cycle. How often is too much of curse we are all different with our own activity levels and fluid intake but the average healthy person urinates 6 to 7 times a day or up to 10 times in some individuals but if someone notices their trips to the bathroom becoming more frequent than their personal norm and it’s interfering with day – to – day life. It could be a red flag to see the doctor.
Excessively Hunger – Those with diabetes can have what seems to be an insatiable appetite. So even though you might have just eaten, it feels like you haven’t eaten a thing. Why does this happen? Well, diabetics have lost much of their ability to self-regulate blood sugar, so this leads to a significant fluctuation in blood sugar levels. Now when these levels plummet, the brain thinks it’s starving and carves more sugar and more calories, and that’s why you are always feeling hungry.
Recurring infections – If you have high blood sugar you can become highly susceptible to different infections. One of the most common infection sites among diabetic patients is the urinary tract and skin. This mostly happens because the immune system is weakened. Obesity can be a sign of diabetes, but shedding ponds even if you do not try can also mean you have the disease. In third cases, weight loss can happen for two reasons. Excess water loss in your body because of frequent urination or your body is not able to absorb all calories from the sugar in your blood.
Numbness and tingling sensations – Numbness and tingling sensations are known as warning signs of diabetes. Having high blood sugar levels can restrict proper blood flow to your extremities and in the end, it can damage the nerves. This can become a very severe problem and interrupt the nerve fibers.
Fuzzy or blurry vision – High blood sugar levels can also cause blurry vision due to the changes in fluid levels in the body. This can make the eye lenses swell and affect your ability to focus. Once you regulate your blood sugar levels, your vision should return to normal.
Fatigue and weakness – Fatigue is a very common symptom of diabetes and it can interfere with and disrupt different aspects of your everyday life. Because of high blood glucose levels, your body is not able to give a proper response to the insulin and the cells won’t be able to absorb the blood glucose. As a result, you will feel fatigue and weakness.
Remedies to treat your diabetics easily at home:
Hibiscus leaves – Take a blender jar. Place hibiscus leaves in it and pour some water. Make a fine paste out of it. Now take a bowl of watermark the space in it. Mix the paste in the water and place this bowl aside for overnight. Next day morning take this water on empty stomach. It’s not bitter, you can follow. It’s comfortable. You do not eat or drink anything for two hours. Repeat this for an evening with the same method. Do this for 8 days. Remember do not mix single time otherwise medicine will not work even if you restart from the beginning. If you missed then stop for two months. Take again full course after 60 days.
Note – If this plant is not available in your area then try to get the powder of hibiscus. Take one tablespoon of hibiscus powder and soak in water for overnight and take the water next day morning. Do the same for evening dose in the morning and keep aside for 5 to 6 hours and take in the evening by doing this for 8 days.
Bitter gourd – It is the best home remedy for diabetes. It contains the chemical called keratin which controls the urine and blood glucose level. It purifies the blood. This can be taken as a juice, as a vegetable and also as a powder form.
Ginger, Garlic, and Lemon – This is a very powerful combination to help treat diabetes. Take 4 organic lemons, 1 ginger root and 4 heads of garlic and 2 liters of water. Wash the lemons well and cut them into small pieces also peel all cloves of garlic. Put the lemon, garlic, and ginger into your blender. Proceed to mix it until a good texture is achieved. When boiling turn off the heat and wait for it to cool completely. You should drink a glass of this mixture two hours before each meal preferably not an empty stomach. This should be done for three weeks in a row without interruption.
Radish – Radish is very good for diabetes. Eat radish two times a day cures diabetes gradually.
Black cumin, cumin seeds, and fenugreek seeds – Black cumin seeds decrease high blood sugar glucose levels by increasing insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake by self. Cumin seeds help to block the formation of age advance a glycation end – products typical in most diabetes. Fenugreek seeds are being used as a traditional herbal treatment for diabetes, it is a good supplement to cure diabetes. Take 25 grams fenugreek seeds, 25-grams cumin seeds and 25 grams of black cumin and adjoin 25 grams. Add fenugreek seeds in ho pan and roast on medium high heat for one or minutes. Stir frequently until it gets red-brown in color and after that keep it aside. Now fry adjoining black cumin and cumin seeds until it gets light red-brown color. Blend the mixture of black cumin seeds, cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds into powder. Mix one tablespoon of this mixture in the glass of water and take it daily before breakfast and dinner.
Turmeric with milk – Turmeric powder is very effective medicine. Take little one teaspoon of turmeric and you can increase the dose to 1 tablespoon for a week. You can take 1 – 1 teaspoon and put this in a glass of milk. Mix well and drink it every day or make a routine of the daytime like in the morning or you can take it at night before going bed. Do it regularly.
Chickpeas(Kala Chana) – Add one cup of chickpeas in milk. Soak it overnight. Filter the mixture and drink it daily early morning.
Neem leaves – Take two tender leaves of Neem on an empty stomach in the morning. This helps to reduce blood sugar levels and Tulsi leaves also can be added to this.
